Adding Encyclopedia Entries

Depending whether you are using a printed or an online encyclopedia, you can add encyclopedia entries either as a Contribution in an Edited Book or as an Internet Document.

For printed encyclopedias, first add the encyclopedia as an Edited Book. Then add each entry as a Contribution.

For articles from online encyclopedias, such as Encyclopaedia Britannica or Wikipedia, add each individual article as an Internet Document.

Hint

Some citation styles have special requirements for citing encyclopedia entries, for example, New Political Economy. To make sure these rules are applied, enter the word encyclopedia in Custom field 1. Additional information can be found in each citation style's description, which you can view when changing the style in Citavi.
