Removing Fields

The sources added to your Word document with the Citavi Assistant are fields. Before you submit your text to a publisher, you must convert these fields to simple text.

The Citavi Assistant does not yet have a feature that converts fields to text.

Converting fields to text in Word for Mac

  1. Save the Word file in DOC format. This causes Word to remove the Content Controls that the Citavi Assistant uses. Do NOT delete the original document in DOCX format! If you want to update the bibliography later, you will need it.
  2. Select all the text in the DOC file by pressing + A.
  3. To delete the fields, press + fn + + F9.

Please note:

The steps outlined above also delete the links to your table of contents! If you make further changes to the document's content, you will need to delete the table of contents and create it again. In Word, click on the References tab and use the Table of Contents tool.

If you are working with a citation style that uses citation footnotes, take these additional steps:

  1. Place the cursor in a footnote.
  2. Select all footnotes with + A.
  3. To delete the fields, press + fn + + F9.
