Importing PDF annotations

This function is not available in the beta version of Citavi Web.

If you prefer to read your PDF documents and highlight important passages on a tablet computer, Citavi can help you transfer these highlights to your project.

Importing highlights from other PDF programs as Knowledge items

  1. It is best to save your PDF files to a location where both Citavi and other programs and devices can access them, e.g. OneDrive, DropBox or a WebDAV drive. (Alternately, you can also edit a PDF file elsewhere and then copy it to the computer you use to access Citavi.)
  2. Edit your PDF file with a PDF reader of your choice (e.g. Acrobat Reader, GoodReader for iPad, Foxit MobilePDF for Android or the Markup tool in Mac Preview).
  3. Open your Citavi project.
  4. Link the PDF file to a reference if you have not yet done so.
  5. Open the PDF file in the Citavi preview. Highlights made outside of Citavi appear as yellow underlines.
  6. Right-click a highlighted underline.
  7. Make a selection, such as Add as quotation.

Making your Citavi annotations visible in external PDF readers

Annotations made in Citavi are not saved directly in the PDF file. This means that you will not see them when you open the file in an external reader, such as Adobe Acrobat. If you would like to view your annotations in other readers, you can export your PDF annotations.
