You may find that you need to import large amounts of reference data into Citavi. Citavi lets you import from many reference management programs.
You may find that Citavi appears to import more references than expected. For example, you might import a project with 98 references and find 115 in Citavi. This is not an error, but a difference in how Citavi stores related references. Citavi differentiates between parent and child references and divides them into different reference types (for example, Contribution in an Edited book). Many reference management programs do not make this distinction, so when you import a file from them, Citavi does this for you. The result is that 98 references in one program can become 115 in Citavi.
Unlike Citavi, some reference management programs save names of persons "whole", that is, without separating them into first, middle, and last names. When importing, Citavi checks names and splits them into their component parts. Be sure to check names after an import to make sure they were transferred correctly.
