Working over a Slow Network Connection
Citavi saves changes automatically. In Team projects, Citavi also checks whether other team members made changes. As a result, Citavi often accesses the team project.
If the connection is fast you usally won't notice it. If the connection is slow, especially if you're using a Virtual Private Network these checks and automatic saving can lead to the display being delayed when you switch between references or tabs, for example.
Citavi receognizes the slow database access and responds accordingly:
- The automatic check to see whether other team members made changes, only occurs if you make changes. Changes are then not saved after ceratin actions, but instead every two minutes.
- Attached files, webpages, and covers are not automatically displayed in the preview.
In every Citavi project you can decide how often Citavi should access the project. Click File > Porject Properties > Database > Optimize for slow database access and then select one of the following options:
- Auto (default setting)
Citavi evaluates the speed of the network connection when the database is opened and when simple changes are saved. If the connection speed is below a certain rate, Citavi assumes that the network connection is slow and acts as described above. - Always
Citavi does not perform a test to evaluate the connection speed and acts as described above. - Never
Citavi assumes there's a fast connection speed and the databases accesses are not reduced.
