System Requirements
Citavi requires one of the following: Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2008 (with .NET Framework 4.5).
To Use Team Features:
1. Install the Latest Version
We recommend version 4.0 or later. The team features of Citavi require version 3.1 or later to be installed on each team member's computer or USB flash drive (or on a server, see below). Every member needs the same version. A Citavi 4 project cannot be opened with a Citavi 3 installation. |
2. Provide Shared Storage
Team projects must be saved on a Windows network share (LAN) that all team members have access to. The network can be peer-to-peer or server-based. The average recommended project size depends on the RAM on each computer. For a computer with 4 GB RAM a Citavi project should not contain more than 20,000 references. If you want to work on a project online (WAN), you must make sure that the SMB/CIFS protocol is supported, which is usually not the case. unterstützen. The following are not supported:
Technical Background: Citavi projects are SQLite databases. SQLite is not a database server, but rather a normal file-based database. For databases that are file-based, the operating system has to guarantee that the file is blocked during use by multiple users. Samba, WebDAV and other protocols don't do this well enough. |
3. Disable the Windows Offline Files Feature
Make sure that the Windows offline files feature is disabled for the folder in which your Citavi team project is saved. |
4. Distribute Licenses
Each team member needs to enter a license key for Citavi. For members that need to edit projects, a Citavi Team license is needed. For members that only need to read (but not edit) projects, a Citavi Reader license is sufficient. You can purchase licenses in our Online Shop. If you want to try Citavi Team before you buy, you can use Citavi Free or Citavi Pro to create team projects, as long as the number of references in all open projects is under 100. |
Assign Roles to Members (Optional)
If certain project members with a Team license should only be able to read a project but not make changes to it, the project leader should change their roles in the project. The Project Leader must first create a protected project and then assign Author or Reader roles to project members. |
Special Case: Providing Citavi on an Application Server
If you do not want to install Citavi individually on each client computer, you can install Citavi on an application server. Please contact Citavi Support for assistance with licensing. |
