Converting Fields

In the following scenarios you might want to convert fields in a Word document or placeholders.

Your Word document contains placeholders {Miller 2009 #84: 12}. You want to continue writing your paper using Citavi's Word Add-In. To do so, you need to convert your placeholders to fields.

  1. Open the document containing Citavi placeholders.
  2. On the Citavi ribbon, click Citavi pane.
  3. Select the project that you used to insert placeholders.
  4. On the Citavi ribbon click Convert > Citavi placeholders to fields.
  5. Citavi creates a copy of your document with fields.

Your Word document contains fields that were inserted using the EndNote software program. You would like to use Citavi to continue working on the document.

  1. If you have access to the EndNote library import the EndNote library into Citavi.
  2. Open the document containing the EndNote fields.
  3. On the Citavi ribbon, click Citavi pane.
  4. Select the Citavi project that you want to use to insert references into your document.
  5. On the Citavi ribbon click Convert > EndNote fields to Citavi fields.
  6. Citavi creates a copy of your document with Citavi fields.

hmtoggle_plus1 Convert Citavi Fields to Static Text

You used the Add-In for Word to create a publication that you want to submit to a publisher. The publisher requests a document without fields.

  1. Open the document containing Citavi fields.
  2. On the Citavi ribbon click Convert > Save a copy as static text.
  3. Citavi creates a copy of the Word file. Save the Word file under a new name.

Submit this document to the publisher.

hmtoggle_plus1 Copy References Inserted by Someone Else into Your Own Project

You received a Word document with Citavi fields. However, you do not have access to the original project. You want to make changes to a reference or add additional references.

  1. Open the document containing Citavi placeholders.
  2. On the Citavi ribbon, click Convert > Copy references from document to Citavi project.
  3. Citavi adds the bibliographic information for the references in the document into the current project.
