Working over a Slow Network Connection
The following information does not apply to server projects.
Citavi saves changes automatically. In projects saved on a network drive, Citavi also checks whether other team members made changes. As a result, Citavi accesses the team project often.
If the connection is fast you usually won't notice these checks. If the connection is slow, especially if you're using a Virtual Private Network these checks and the automatic saving can lead to the display being delayed when switching between references or tabs.
Citavi recognizes slow connections and responds accordingly:
- The automatic check to see whether other team members made changes only occurs if you make changes. Changes are also not saved automatically after certain actions, but are instead saved only every two minutes.
- Attached files, webpages, and covers are not automatically displayed in the preview pane.
In every Citavi project you can decide how often Citavi should access the project. Click File > Project Properties > Database > Optimize for slow database access and then select one of the following options:
- Auto (default setting)
Citavi evaluates the speed of the network connection when the database is opened and when simple changes are saved. If the connection speed is below a certain rate, Citavi assumes that the network connection is slow and acts as described above. - Always
Citavi does not perform a test to evaluate the connection speed and acts as described above. - Never
Citavi assumes there's a fast connection speed and does not reduce the number and type of databases checks.
