Upgrading from Citavi 4 to Citavi 5

If you previously were working with Citavi 4, you can continue working on your projects in Citavi 5.

1. Uninstall Citavi 4 if you have not yet done so: Windows Start > Control panel > Uninstall a program.
2. Download the Citavi 5 setup: http://www.citavi.com/download. Double-click the file Citavi5Setup.exe to start the installation.
3. Start Citavi 5 and enter your license key for Citavi for Windows. If you do not enter your license key you will not be able to convert any Citavi 4 project containing over 100 references. If Citavi finds a site license key on your computer, you won't have to reenter the license key.
4. The first time Citavi 5 is started it searches for projects in the Citavi 4 default folder for user files (Documents\Citavi 4\Projects) or in a folder you tell it to search. Citavi 5 will create a subfolder with the name of the project in the folder Citavi 5\Projects, save a copy of the old project in the new format, and open the copy of the project. You can now continue working with the project.

If you saved Citavi 2, Citavi 3 or Citavi 4 projects in various locations, on the Citavi 5 Welcome Screen, click Open to convert your existing projects to Citavi 5 format.

Important

Projects created in Citavi 5 cannot be opened in Citavi 4.
