Entering Special Characters
You can add reference information to Citavi even if these contain Cyrillic, Chinese or other characters. Fundamentally, the input language and keyboard layout are set in the operating system. Refer to Windows help for assistance. In this regard, Citavi behaves like any other word processor. In addition, the following options are also available:
Inserting Using the Clipboard
If you have a digital file containing the text, you can simply copy the text to the Clipboard and insert it in Citavi.
Inserting Using the Windows Character Map
In Citavi you can open the Windows Character Map by right-clicking a text field. In the Shortcut menu, point to Special characters and then click Windows Character Map. Select the character you want to use, click Select, and then click Copy. After that insert the character in Citavi. You can also use the Windows Emoji Picker by pressing Win + .
Inserting Using Unicode or Windows Keystrokes
Citavi has a special command to convert Unicode codes: type the four-digit code of a character (such as 00E5 to get the character å) into a text field and press Ctrl+Alt+U. Citavi transforms the last four characters into a Unicode character, as long as a valid code was entered.
How do you find out what the Unicode code is? Find the code in the Windows Character Map. Select a character. In the status bar you will see the code and the Windows keystroke combination. You can also insert the character å using the numeric keypad. Press and hold the Alt key and enter 0235 using the keypad.
Inserting Typographic Characters From the Toolbar in the Editor Window
You can use typographic characters in Citavi, such as dashes, ellipses, and quotation marks. In formatted text fields (Abstract, Thought, Quotation, etc.) these characters can be found in the editor window's toolbar after clicking on the blue field label.
