Information about Group Policies

Internal company group policies may block the installation of the Citavi Pickers and the execution of the Citavi Word Add-In.

Citavi Picker

The installation of the Chrome, Firefox, and Edge Pickers does not occur via the setup, but through retrieval from the respective store. If you use group policies that generally block the installation of add-ons, you must whitelist the pickers. To do so, you need the IDs of the pickers:

Citavi Word Add-In

The German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) has published recommendations for group policies that enable secure configuration of Microsoft Office. If these recommendations are implemented as described, they prevent Citavi’s Word Add-In from loading correctly. Settings affecting the Citavi Word Add-In can be found both in the general Microsoft Office policies and in those specifically related to Word. This FAQ article presents the most important policies.

Policies (Microsoft Office)

Security Settings/Automation Security

If this policy is set as recommended to the value "Disable all macros by default", Citavi’s Word Add-In cannot be loaded. For the Add-In to work, at least the level "Use application macro security level" is required. It is advisable to proceed relatively restrictively with the application’s security level, i.e., in Word.

Security Settings/Disable VBA for Office applications

If this policy is enabled, Citavi’s Word Add-In cannot be loaded because it requires VBA macros to function.

Policies (Microsoft Word)

Miscellaneous/Block all unmanaged add-ins

If this policy is enabled, Citavi’s Word Add-In must be listed in the "List of managed add-ins" (see below).

Miscellaneous/List of managed add-ins

The Add-In can either always be enabled here (value 1) or be configurable by the user (value 2). The ProgID for Citavi’s Word Add-In is SwissAcademic.Citavi.WordAddIn.Connect.

Word Options/Security/Trust Center/Disable all application add-ins

If this policy is enabled, Citavi’s Word Add-In cannot be loaded either.

Word Options/Security/Trust Center/Block macros from running in Office files from the Internet

This policy should be enabled according to the BSI recommendations.

Word Options/Security/Trust Center/VBA Macro Notification Settings

For this policy, the option "Disable all macros except digitally signed macros" should be selected as per the BSI recommendation. It is important that certificates from Swiss Academic Software are present and stored in the "Trusted Publishers" certificate store.

Word Options/Security/Trust Center/Require that application add-ins are signed by Trusted Publisher

This policy should be enabled as per the BSI recommendation. It is important that certificates from Swiss Academic Software are present and stored in the "Trusted Publishers" certificate store.
