Searching Research Databases with Citavi

Relevant articles in scholarly journals and contributions in edited books and conference proceedings can be found in research databases. Usually, keywords and abstracts are also provided. A subject librarian can advise you as to which databases are most relevant for your topic.

If you're working offsite, set up a VPN connection glossary. Your IT department can tell you how to set up the VPN connection. (Please note that you may be using different VPN software than that shown here.)

Start Citavi. In the Reference Editor click Online search.

Select the desired database and enter your search terms. Click Search.

Citavi performs the search. Too many results? You can cancel the search if necessary.

Citavi recognizes if a reference is already in your project. If you want to import duplicates anyway, perhaps because they have better bibliographic information, simply clear the Don't add project duplicates checkbox. Select the references you want to import.

Citavi asks if you want to import keywords as well.

The imported references are applied as a selection. You can now work with a selection containing only the search results. To see all of your references again, click Cancel selection.
