Citation Tab

Year Derived Includes Original publication

The Year derived component is used primarily in the citation style editor. It derives the year of publication of a reference in the following order:

  1. Date of the reference
  2. Year of the reference
  3. Date of the parent reference
  4. Year of the parent reference

For each of these, Year derived checks if the field exists in the reference type and whether it contains anything.

When this option is selected, Year derived first checks whether a year is present in the Original publication field (of the reference or its parent reference) and uses it if present.

Citation key support

Select this option to use citation keys in your publications. Citation keys are used in certain disciplines, such as chemistry or computer science. For example, the citation key "Kor06" might refer to the reference "Kornberg 2006". When you have selected this option, click Customize to change the template Citavi uses to generate citation keys.

Enabling LaTeX support

Select the LaTeX support checkbox if you are using TeX and want to insert BibTeX keys and quotations into TeX documents. After you have selected this option, click Customize BibTeX keys to edit the template Citavi uses to generate BibTeX keys. Please also read the chapter Creating a Publication with TeX.

Default text editor

Select the TeX editor you are using from the list. If you are using an online TeX editor, configure your settings so that references and knowledge items are copied to the Clipbaord. You can then insert the contents of the Clipboard into your online editor.

Cite command

The \cite command is used by LaTeX to insert a BibTeX citation. If necessary, you can enter multiple commands here for quick access in the Publication Assistant. This lets you use commands that differ in different LaTeX packages. For example, for the natbib package, enter: \citet; \citep; \citealt.

Quote command

The "quote" command is used by LaTeX to insert a quotation. If necessary, you can enter additional commands here for quick access in the LaTeX Assistant. Use quote for short quotations. Use quotation for longer quotations and to indent the first line of the quotation. If the quotation is a poem, use verse to preserve line breaks.

Line break command

Configure how Citavi encodes line breaks when exporting to TeX (for example, in longer quotations). Common commands are \newline or \par.

LaTeX project folder

Select the folder where your LaTeX editor saves LaTeX projects. When you insert an image quotation from Citavi into your LaTeX editor, Citavi copies the image file to this folder.
