Upgrading from Citavi 6 to Citavi 7

You can continue working in Citavi 7 with projects that were created in Citavi 6. The project file format has not changed, so no conversion is required.

Installing Citavi 7

For how to download and install Citavi 7, see Installing Citavi. Log in to your Citavi Account so that your license is loaded and you can work with your cloud projects.

Your settings and custom citation styles

When you start Citavi 7 for the first time after installation, the contents of your Citavi 6 user folder are copied to a corresponding Citavi 7 folder, including your local projects and custom citation styles. The local projects displayed on the Citavi start screen then reference this new folder.

Your Word documents

You can keep using Word documents that you created with Citavi 6. The Citavi 7 Word Add-In is installed together with Citavi 7, and your existing documents continue to work without any conversion.

Shared and team projects

Projects that your team shares on a network drive also open in Citavi 7 without conversion. Each team member can install Citavi 7 and continue working in the same projects.

Cloud projects

Your cloud projects are available in Citavi 7 as soon as you log in to your Citavi Account. You don't need to do anything else. For more information, see Using Citavi Cloud.
