What's new in Citavi 6?

Citavi 6 has several new features that support working in teams and on mutiple PCs.

Optionally saving projects in the cloud

Citavi 6 gives you the option of saving your projects in the cloud. For example, you may begin work on a project using a public access computer, and the continue your work at home or at your workplace. You may also work on your project offline. Your changes will be applied automatically when you next use Citavi while online.

Cloud storage space is not limited, but we do ask that you comply with our fair use policy of 5 GB or less per Citavi cloud project. In addition, there is a limit to the size for each file. A PDF file can be up to 100 MB and other files can only be up to 50 MB. Additional details can be found in the End User License Agreement in Section 6.

Cloud projects also faciliate work in large and international teams. You can invite as many colleagues to particpate in your project as you like, and delegate read, write and modify permissions within the team. You will also be able to see who is currently working on the project and communicate via chat.

Please note:

Saving projects in the cloud provides you with an additional option to work with your data. You will still be able to store your data locally, on a network data drive, a server, or an external hard drive. You can change your storage location at any time.

Citavi for 64-bit computers

Citavi recognizes whether a computer is running a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows. Citavi will benefit from running on 64-bit version of Windows, as large-scale projects and large PDF files become more manageable.

Whether your version of Microsoft Office is a 32-bit or 64-bit version is not relevant for Citavi's functionality.

License via the Citavi Account

Start Citavi and log in with your account data. Citavi will recognize whether you have a valid license for Citavi 6.

Upon logging in, Citavi will find projects that were previously stored in the cloud and will also recognize which projects you yourself created, and which team projects were created by other users.

License keys will no longer be a concern.

Easier integration of scripts in the Citation Style Editor

Scripts for new templates and programmed components for the citation style editor can be downloaded directly from our server. This ensures that your customized citation styles are always outfitted with the newest script version.

Additional fields for various document types

To better meet the requirements of certain citation styles, we have added additional fields for certain document types, for example: Translator. In the list of reference types you will be able to distinguish the newly added fields by an asterisk after their field names.

The new arXiv ID and PMC ID fields now work the same way as an ISBN, a DOI or a PubMed ID. Citavi can now automatically add bibliographic information for these new identifiers.

More customization options for universities

Many educational institutions, companies, and organizations have purchased site licenses for their employees and students. As a site license user of Citavi, you will now be able to display information directly on Citavi's Welcome Screen.

More background tasks

Many tasks - such as saving imported titles - are accomplished in the background, allowing for a more fluid workflow.

User IDs for "Created by" and "Modified by"

In Citavi 5, the user could choose the initials that would appear in the "Created by" and "Modified by" fields. In Citavi 6 the same user identity that's used for the sign-on process in the Citavi Cloud or DBServer is used. (Initials are still used in local projects).
